One Day at a Time
by: Liane Schmidt
When going after your dreams, it can sometimes feel like things are not happening fast enough. You see your dreams, you have them perfectly pictured in your mind, but time, circumstances and other such factors seem to always prolong results. You see others around you who seem to have what you want, seem to be living their dreams. You hear their stories. You wonder how you can get through the ache of wanting what you know can’t be yours, at the present moment.
I often find that I get caught up in the moment if something truly interests me. It can sometimes take over everything else I’m dealing with and often make me forget about everything else going on in my life. Though this is sign of passion and being present in the moment (something I love about myself), I do realize with time and experience that it is also something I have to learn how to not let get the better of me. It has oftentimes made me ache painfully for things, I know I cannot realistically have immediately, so much so that it can hinder me from other things. This is when it can become detrimental to my dreams, my hopes, and my goals.
Ultimately, almost everything worth having takes time to develop. From building a home, to building a nest egg, to building a relationship. One needs to make sure the plans for any new endeavor are solid, well thought through, and all the varying factors are taken into account. If one support board is left out of the equation, the first time a natural disaster occurs a home can completely come crashing down. This is why taking one’s time, thoughtful reflection and planning are crucial pieces to the actions you are taking to create your dreams.
It is okay if this takes time. It doesn’t matter if others seem to have it all and you don’t. Use their success to motivate you to realize that those luxuries are achievable and know that you probably also have something these people want as well. Maybe you are more physically fit? Maybe you have the freedom that they always wished they had taken?
The grass is not always greener, though many people feel that it is, it is not. Behind the surface, we are all constantly growing, learning, and self-actualizing. It is a life-long process and we will all continue to learn from one another for the rest of our lives. Try to keep in mind that you are doing the best you can right now and take your time. Work toward your dreams, steadily, patiently, one day at a time you will get there, you will get there.

I hope so Liane. Sometimes the dreams seem to remain just that- dreams. And you feel broken inside.
